For information go to the www.raudogshows.com web WHAT A DOG SHOW IS ALL ABOUT Pocono Mountain Kennel Club sponsors two AKC dog shows yearly in September, offering breed Conformation judging, Obedience trials and Rally events. Conformation Events are offered and intended to evaluate the overall appearance and structure of each breed. Each of the breed standards are approved by the American Kennel Club. At a point show, points are awarded towards a dog’s championship. Obedience Trials test a dog's ability to perform a prescribed set of exercises on which it is scored. In each exercise, you must score more than 50 percent of the possible points and get a total score of at least 170 out of a possible 200. Each time your dog gets at least a 170 qualifying score, he's earned a "leg" toward his title. Earn three legs and your dog has just earned an obedience title! Rally Events . Rally is a relaxed form of Obedience, with three levels of competition. It is a sport in which the dog and handler work together, following a course of signs with instruction, as to the next step. In addition rally promotes fun and enjoyment for dogs at all levels of competition. Pocono Mt. Kennel Club offers many types of classes for it's members and the
community, having Obedience classes 24 weeks a year. We have Canine Good Citizen practice and testing, and offer Showhandling in March and October. CLASSES COMING THIS SPRING - MARCH 8, 2010 BASIC OBEDIENCE $85.00 6 WEEKS This class is for dogs over five months of age with no formal training. Controlled walking, sit down, stay, come commands as well as dealing with common problem behaviors ADVANCED BASIC $85.00 6 WEEKS This is the foundation for the competition obedience. This class will include heeling, sit, beginning work on recall footwork and handler technique).Prerequisite: Basic Obedience. SHOWHANDLING This class is for people who want to show their dog in the confirmation ring at dog shows. RALLY CLASSES WILL NOT BE OFFERED THIS SESSION RALLY (NOVICE) $85.00 6WEEKS Rally is a relaxed form of Obedience, with different levels of competition. This is the very beginning level which requires that the dog and handler have had previous obedience expierence. RALLY (ADVANCED) $85.00 6WEEKS This class is for someone who has their Novice Rally title, and wants to continue to the next level.
