Pocono Mt. Kennel Club, Inc
WELCOME

Brief History Of PMKC

The idea of Pocono Mountain Kennel Club started in 1971, by a local dog breeder,
who placed an ad in a local newspaper paper. A room full of people showed up at
The Carriage House Restaurant, in East Stroudsburg, Pa., where the meetings were
held once a month. The Constitution & By-Laws in addition to the Code of Ethics
were adopted and accepted by the membership, Pocono Mt. Kennel Club became
incorporated February 8, 1972.  In the late 1970’s Monthly Fun Matches were held
in the gym at the Portland Elementary School, Portland, Pa. Every month approximately
50 – 75 dogs entered the match show, under two (2) Judges.  Obedience & Show Handling
Classes were held at the American Legion in East Stroudsburg

On April 23, 1972 the first B Match Show was held at the West End Fairgrounds.
The first A Match was held in September 1973. Our first POINT SHOW was held
Friday, September 13, 1974

We’ve come a long way since then; we now have two Dog Shows every
September. Obedience Sessions are held 24 weeks a year, with
Show Handling classes held in March and October We have an excellent
referral Service, monthly Newsletter, are a member club of AKC and
have a delegate to represent us. We donate to many local dog organizations,
AKC Canine Health Foundation, and offer scholarships to Veterinarian students
and Veterinary Technicians. In 2007 we purchased animal oxygen masks
and distributed them to area fire companies, to help save animals that
have been rescued from fire or other mishaps.

POCONO MT. KENNEL CLUBS COMMUNITY SERVICE

Pocono Mt. Kennel Club donated the SurgiVet Animal Oxygen Recovery Mask to
Monroe County fire, rescue teams at their September 14, 2007 All Breed Dog Show, at the
West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert, PA

The Kennel Club purchased the 30 sets of masks, each set contains three different sizes.
The reusable masks have a rubber gasket, to create a good seal around the muzzle or mouth
of the animal. It is then connected to an oxygen tank or breathing bag.
